Which slumping star will score next?

Every season sees some of the game’s biggest names struggle early on. Sometimes they’re recovering from offseason injury, sometimes they just need to get warmed up after a summer off, and sometimes they just had a badly timed cold streak.

Tyler Yaremchuk and Mike McKenna took a look at some of the stars of the league who haven’t scored this season to see who will be the next one to get one.

Mike McKenna: “I’m going to say Sasha Barkov. I went back and looked at his past years and game logs, and it’s pretty rare that he goes more than two or three games in a season without having scored. He did have one, I think it was 19-20, where he went 13 games, which is a complete outlier for him, and last year scoring 39 goals, that was a career high.

But what it really comes down to for Barkov, he’s still creating, he’s had 20 shots on goal, but he’s also missed the net 10 times. So I think as soon as he calibrates that shot, he’ll be back in the score column real soon.”

Tyler Yaremchuk: “I’m going to go with San Jose and Timo Meier, this guy is ice cold to start the year, but he’s just been ripping the puck. He’s got 42 shots on goal through his first nine games this season, averaging well over four shots a game. It’s only a matter a time that these things start going in the net for Timo Meier.

And tonight, he’s going up against Erik Kallgren between the pipes for the Leafs, so I actually think it could be a pretty high scoring game between Toronto and San Jose tonight. So, I think I like Timo Meier, he’s a natural goal scorer, and could probably still pop 40 this year. 42 shots in nine games, and he hasn’t found the back of the net, that’s wild!”
