Stars forward Ty Dellandrea fined for goaltender interference
Dallas Stars winger Ty Dellandrea was fined $2333.33 by the NHL Department of Player Safety for goaltender interference on New York Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin.
The incident occurred late in the first period of Saturday afternoon’s game between the Stars and Rangers. Dellandrea skated through the crease as the Stars were shifting from offense to defense, and tripped up Shesterkin in the process. He received a two minute minor for tripping, and also served coincidental minors with Rangers winger Artemi Panarin for roughing. The Rangers won the game 6-3, with Shesterkin stopping 30 of 33 shots for the win, while Dellandrea finished with no points and a -1 rating.
This fine is the maximum allowable under the CBA. Dellandrea has managed to avoid suspension with the play, but with this being the first fine of his career, he now has a file with the Department of Player Safety.
Dellandrea has gotten a full-time NHL gig for the first time since he was drafted in the first round by the Stars in 2018. He’s played in all nine games for the Stars so far this season, posting three assists while still waiting for his first goal. He played just 27 games in his past two seasons. He entered the season with three goals and two assists, all coming in the 2020-21 season.
Despite the loss to the Rangers, the Stars have been off to a strong start this season. They are 5-3-1 to start the year, good for first in the Central division and tied for fourth in the league with the Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers. They are looking to build off of their finish last season, where they made the playoffs as a wild card team and took the Pacific division winning Calgary Flames to seven games.
