No one claimed Josh Primo off waivers after allegations of sexually inappropriate behavior

After the Spurs released Josh Primo, any NBA team could have claimed him for free. No one did.

It’s not surprising that after multiple allegations of sexually inappropriate behavior, no NBA team wants to take a shot on Primo, despite his lottery-pick pedigree. The Spurs were on the hook for over $8 million in salary but they didn’t hesitate to send Primo packing. San Antonio’s CEO R.C. Buford said in a statement, “It is our hope that, in the long run, this decision will serve the best interest of both the organization and Joshua.”

While the NBA’s track record in dealing with player misbehavior has been spotty over the years, it is heartening that Primo remains unclaimed. No one has signed unrestricted free agent Miles Bridges either after he was charged with three felony counts of domestic violence.

In what can only be considered a disingenuous statement given the nature of his accusations, Primo insists he is stepping away to “take this time to focus on my mental health treatment more fully.” Given the league’s tepid response to his availability, it sounds like Primo will have plenty of free time this season to do so.
