Browns GM Andrew Berry confirms when Deshaun Watson will start, praises Jacoby Brissett
Cleveland Browns GM Andrew Berry on Wednesday said suspended QB Deshaun Watson will take over as starting QB in Week 13, but the move is not because of poor play by Jacoby Brissett.
Watson is serving an 11-game suspension and was also fined $5 million (both of which were reported in August) for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. He faces over 20 allegations of sexual misconduct stemming from visits with dozens of massage therapists.
It was reported in October that the 27-year-old Watson was facing a new civil lawsuit and the NFL was planning to “monitor developments” surrounding the situation.
The Browns play at the Texans in Week 13 on Dec. 4.
In eight games this season, Brissett has posted a career-best 63.9% completion percentage for 1,862 passing yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions, while adding 31 carries for 142 rushing yards and two scores. The Browns are currently 3-5 and in third place in the AFC North.
Week 13 would not only be Watson’s first NFL game since the 2020 campaign, but he would be returning to face the franchise that selected him in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft and where he spent his entire career up until the offseason trade to Cleveland. Watson earned three Pro Bowl nods while playing with the Texans from 2018 through 2020.
