Packers’ Sammy Watkins calls Bills ‘best team so far in the NFL’

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Sammy Watkins hasn’t featured for the Buffalo Bills in years but nevertheless spoke highly about his former employer ahead of Sunday’s showdown between the clubs.

“I had some of my best times there,” Watkins said of the Bills, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “People don’t know that was my childhood team and it is still my team. So to play for an organization that I love, I liked as a kid growing up is definitely a blessing. And I have some of my best memories.”

Watkins initially entered the NFL when the Bills made him the fourth-overall pick of the 2014 draft. He flashed promise on multiple occasions during his stint with the organization but dealt with several injury setbacks before Buffalo traded him to the Los Angeles Rams shortly before the 2017 season. Watkins has since become a journeyman who signed with the Packers this past spring.

“That’s the best team so far in the NFL,” Watkins added about the 2022 edition of the Bills. “It’s going to be great.”

Watkins missed time this fall because of a hamstring injury and has thus far only appeared in three games for the Packers. The 29-year-old has accumulated eight receptions for 147 yards and zero touchdowns.

Green Bay has lost three consecutive contests and will look to end that streak at the 5-1 Bills on Sunday night.
