Watch: Bengals QB Joe Burrow booms perfect punt in practice
Is there anything Joe Burrow can’t do?
The Cincinnati Bengals’ star quarterback proved he could be dangerous with more than his arm during practice Thursday, executing a perfect punt. Thankfully, Burrows’ booming kick got caught on video.
Speaking with reporters later in the day, Burrow revealed that it was his first time punting a football in 10 years. When asked if it could become a secret weapon for the Bengals, Burrow responded, “I guess so. You never know when we’re going to break it out.”
While it’s unlikely Burrow has a future as a punter, he may soon be an MVP. Burrow ranks third in the NFL in completions (389) and second in touchdown passes (34) while sporting the sixth-best passer rating (102.3). Heading into Week 17, Burrow has the second-best odds (+1000) to win the league MVP, behind only Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (-400), according to Oddschecker.
However, the MVP award isn’t the trophy Burrow wants come season’s end.
“I haven’t really thought about it, to be honest,” Burrow said. “If you win it, you go to the ceremony. Usually, you’re not in the Super Bowl because if you’re in the Super Bowl, you’re preparing, sitting in the hotel room. So, I’d rather have that one.”
