A.J. Brown: 8-0 Eagles ‘not caught up in trying to go perfect’

Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown is doing well to keep his eyes on the prize.

“I think winning, going 1-0, every week,” Brown remarked about the team’s overall goals following Thursday’s 29-17 victory over the Houston Texans that propelled the Eagles to a franchise-first 8-0 record, per Zach Berman of The Athletic. “But we’re not stuck on a number. We’re just trying to win every week. This s— is hard. Prime example, the first half. They took the ball out of our hand, running the ball. We’ve got to find a way to adjust. We’re not caught up in trying to go perfect. That’s not even a conversation right now. We’re just trying to win. Find a way to win.”

Brown is right in that the Texans, who fell to 1-6-1 via the defeat, entered halftime of Thursday’s encounter tied with Philadelphia 14-14 before the Eagles ultimately ran away with an eighth consecutive win.

Brown offered his comments less than a full week after Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts told Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio he appreciated his teammates had embraced keeping “perfection” as their standard even though Hurts admitted at that time that “perfection is never attainable.” Interestingly, PFT’s Josh Alper noted on Friday that “none of the last 10 teams to open a season 8-0 have won the Super Bowl.”

As things stand today, the Eagles won’t face an opponent with a winning record again until they take on the Tennessee Titans (currently 5-2) in Week 13 on Dec. 4. For now, Philadelphia gets to enjoy a bit of a break before a home divisional matchup against the Washington Commanders on Nov. 14.

The 4-4 Commanders host the 6-1 Minnesota Vikings this Sunday.
